Asked Questions
GSM stands for grams per square metre — the standard unit for measuring fabric weight. It directly affects how a garment feels, drapes, and wears.
- Lightweight t-shirts — typically 120 to 160 GSM
- Standard t-shirts — usually 160 to 200 GSM
- Heavyweight t-shirts — generally 200 GSM and above
A lower GSM feels lighter and more breathable. A higher GSM feels thicker, more structured, and more durable.
Singles refers to the yarn thickness used to knit the fabric. The number indicates how fine or coarse the yarn is.
Lower singles (e.g. 20s) = thicker yarn = heavier, more textured fabric
30 singles is commonly used in premium t-shirts for its soft, refined hand feel.
We take several steps during production to minimise shrinkage. Our fabrics go through a two-stage pre-shrink process during knitting and dyeing, followed by an additional garment wash after sewing.
Because garments are dyed and washed as part of the finishing process, slight measurement variations can occur. A tolerance of up to 2cm, primarily in length, is considered normal.
Garment dyeing and washing processes naturally affect fabric dimensions. As a general guide:
- Block colour dyed garments may measure up to 2cm longer than the size guide
- Undyed garments may measure 1–2cm shorter
- Acid wash or stonewash garments may measure slightly longer due to additional wash processes
These variations are a normal part of garment dye production.
All Mindful Merch colours are developed using Pantone colour references. However, because our garments are made using GOTS certified organic cotton and garment dyeing techniques, slight variations can occur between batches.
Natural fibres absorb dye differently depending on the cotton batch, fabric weight, dye lots, and washing processes. These subtle differences are a normal and expected part of working with natural fibres and ethical dyeing.
Garment dyeing is a process where the finished garment is dyed after it has been cut and sewn — rather than dyeing the fabric first.
This technique creates richer colour depth, a softer hand feel, and a more natural lived-in look. It also means every batch may have slight variations, which is part of the character of garment dyed apparel.

Mindful Merch garments are produced through our ethical production teams in Vietnam and Bangladesh. Over the past few years we've built responsible production partnerships and ensured transparency across our supply chain.
Our Vietnam team began with one maker and has grown into a skilled team producing garments in a dedicated production space. We've also established our own production unit in Bangladesh, where we continue to expand our capabilities including printing and dyeing.
We prioritise GOTS certified organic cotton across our garments. Where possible, we aim to source Australian cotton as part of our long-term commitment to responsible material sourcing. Certified organic cotton ensures environmentally responsible farming practices and safer working conditions throughout the supply chain.
Yes. Mindful Merch develops and produces its own fabrics for many of our garments. By controlling the fabric development stage we can ensure the quality, weight, and feel of the material meets our standards before it is cut and sewn into garments.
Many Mindful Merch garments are garment dyed after they've been cut and sewn. This creates richer colour depth, a softer hand feel, and a natural lived-in look. Because natural fibres and washing processes are involved, slight variations in colour and finish can occur between batches — a normal and authentic part of garment dyed apparel.
Garment washing techniques such as acid wash and stonewash are designed to create unique finishes and texture. Because these processes are applied after the garment is made, each batch can have subtle differences in colour depth, softness, and appearance. These variations are part of the character of washed garments.
